The Bank Of Ghana ( BOG ) has warn the Ghanaian citizens about the new cedi notes that will be coming out on 3rd November, 2026.
The Bank Of Ghana has stated that , the new cedi notes will be durable but its citizens need to handle it with a lot of care. As it’s called the heritage series.
Dominic Owusu , who is the head of BOG says this new currency coming will be more durable than the existing banknotes.
Even if the new banknotes are going to be durable I expect Ghanaians to handle it with care,He said.
When we are able to keep the banknotes clean it is going to reduce the printing cost and help us with the currency circulation system.
The Bank of Ghana says the new and existing banknotes will co-circulate, with the current notes remaining legal purposes. The central bank has  advised the public not to rush to exchange their existing money when the new series is out because the old one will still be in use.
Johnson Asiama who is the governor of the bank of Ghana also involved himself with the statement of pleading with traders and business owners to actually handle the new currency with care to help a better Ghana.
The new heritage series will actually be out on 3rd November, 2026.
Most Ghanaians are confused and upon the questions being asked it was is it about the current government about to change the currency or just about to print out news one but same currency into the country.
WHAT IS CHANGING ; Same denominations: GH¢1, GH¢2, GH¢5, GH¢10, GH¢20, GH¢50, GH¢100, GH¢200. No GH¢500. BoG confirmed no new denomination above GH¢200
Not redenomination: Value stays same. GH¢20 is still GH¢20. It’s not like 2007 when we cut zeros anymore.
• Material: Still cotton-based, but reinforced cotton to last longer — NOT polymer and nothing more to it .
The New features to found on : updated security against counterfeit, improved durability, heritage-focused designs which is the national heroes and monuments.
No different colours but same colors across all papers print .

2. Buying of foods and properties.
3.Helping the daily living of Ghanaian Citizens.
There will be no early exchange of the old ones in the country as said earlier but we will still be using them in our daily lives and expenses. The BOG is ready to provide the citizens a better life when it comes to currency. And this is happening under the National Democratic Congress Party ( NDC ) government. The President Of Ghana Mr John Dramani Mahama has spoken of this and is surly about to take place for real in November 3rd 2026.
CITIZENS REACTIONSÂ
The Ghanaian Citizens are on this with their statement if it will help fight again the USA currency which is the dollar, then is cool to bring it out. But is isn’t to make their living easier then there is no need that currencies need to come out in the first place.
